The following are subjects that frequently lead to misunderstandings. Each issue should be discussed with the residents, who should then accept any rules they are comfortable with. The needs of each person should be considered while making decisions, with emphasis given to sleep and study time. Please feel free to include any other items you see necessary.
- Guests/Visitors: What number of guests are permitted on weeknights and weekends? How often? Where are they allowed to go? How will the locals be informed? What services are offered to visitors? According to the Residential Education and Housing Policy, a residential host must obtain written consent from his or her roommates, suitemates, or floormates before inviting overnight guests since they might infringe on their rights to personal space. Any of these people has the authority to accept or reject a guest’s invitation before that person arrives. The “Shared Living Space Agreement” and each individual instance must specify the rights to overnight guests.
